Manchester City close in on Semenyo as player’s entourage meet the club
Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Antoine Semenyo. Over the past 24 hours, talks with Bournemouth have accelerated decisively, pushing the deal into its final stages. The two clubs are ironing out the last details regarding the payment of the £65m release clause, while City are also close to reaching a full agreement with the winger on personal terms.
Despite the progress, the move is not expected to be completed immediately. Semenyo’s release clause will only officially come into effect from Thursday, and there has been no sign of rival clubs stepping in to challenge City’s clear lead in the race.
The impending transfer has not yet affected the player’s availability. Semenyo has been named in Bournemouth’s squad for tonight’s clash away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and could also feature on Saturday, when the Cherries host Arsenal.
Meanwhile, the player’s representatives have travelled to Manchester to discuss the contract with Pep Guardiola’s club, as parallel talks between City and Bournemouth have been described as “very positive” as they work to finalise the deal.
