In a tweet on the club's official Twitter account, Crystal Palace confirmed they have signed defender Joachim Andersen.

Andersen arrives from Lyon on a five-year deal, after in the past few days rumors of an interest by skipper Patrick Viera for the player had circulated on multiple media outlets. The Dane was part of the Denmark squad that reached the semi-finals at Euro 2020, and his good performances there no doubt convinced Crystal Palace to pull the trigger on the deal.

"The management of the club and Patrick Vieira have given me very strong assurance that they know my qualities, they believe in me and want me to play an important role in the team. I have a very positive impression of Patrick from the conversations I have had with him.” said Andersen in his first statement given to palace's website.

The fullback comes in to replace Dutch international Patrick Van Anholt, who left for Galatasaray on a free transfer. Andersen is already familiar with the English game, as he spent last season playing for Fulham on loan, where he made 31 appearances, scoring one goal. in the process.
