AS Roma close in on Crysencio Summerville as improved bid edges West Ham closer to agreement

Roma are closing in on a deal for Crysencio Summerville. The Giallorossi hope to complete the move by tomorrow before Aston Villa, Saudi clubs or possibly Manchester United can enter the race, should Marcus Rashford leave Old Trafford permanently.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, sporting director Tony D’Amico already has an agreement in principle with the player. Summerville has lowered his wage demands to €4m plus bonuses, rising to around €4.5m a season, although he is still hoping for a bigger offer from the Premier League - one that has not yet arrived.

Deal details
One issue remains unresolved: a reported £45m clause, worth around €53m. Its existence has been denied by Roma officials but confirmed by other sources close to the talks. That discrepancy could be explained either by the clause having expired or by a gentlemen’s agreement between West Ham United and the player, linked to the possibility of relegation to the Championship. In the end, Roma are still expected to move close to West Ham’s asking price of around €50m, made up of roughly €45m in fixed fee and €5m in add-ons. That figure would make Summerville the most expensive signing in Roma’s history.

Summerville on the way?
The deal would surpass the €42m paid for Patrik Schick and the €40m plus bonuses spent on Tammy Abraham. It is a major investment, and Roma hope to get it done in the coming hours. The club also want to send a clear message to supporters after the Curva Sud banner at Trigoria, which called for Lorenzo Pellegrini’s contract renewal and urged Roma not to repeat the mistake made with Zeki Çelik.
