Sometimes a change of scenery is all it takes to transform a career. Scott McTominay did exactly that by leaving Manchester United and finding the perfect stage in Naples to express his full potential. In Serie A, the Scotland midfielder has enjoyed the most complete and rewarding season of his professional life, becoming one of the symbols of Napoli’s title-winning side and even being named Player of the Year.
Under Antonio Conte, McTominay has been handed a role tailored to his strengths: fewer tactical shackles and greater freedom to attack the box, making the most of his physicality, timing and personality. The more measured tempo of Italian football has allowed him to deliver consistently, proving decisive at key moments and growing into a leader within the dressing room. Performances that have not gone unnoticed. According to reports from English outlet CaughtOffside, Manchester United are weighing up a sensational return, while Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation closely.
SSC Napoli’s stance, however, is clear. The club have no intention of selling one of their cornerstones, especially with fresh targets in sight, and would only consider bids well above market value, in the region of €70–80m. A January exit looks highly unlikely, though the conversation could be revisited in the summer. For now, McTominay is enjoying life in Naples and a level of centrality he has never previously experienced.
