In a heartfelt message that he shared on social media, 38-year old striker Sergio Garcia De La Fuente announced his retirement today.

The veteran, who played in almost 500 matches in his career netting 128 goals in the process, wrote on his Instagram account: "Football has kept me company throughout my life. Since I was a little kind in my neighborhood, a football was an inseparable companion. Now I have to say this is it. I retire as a footballer after being in love with this blessed sport for my entire life."

Garcia won the European championship in 2008 with Spain, and at the club level he came through Barcelona's youth sector, to later feature for Levante, Real Betris, Real Saragoza, Real Betis, Espanyol and in Qatar with Al-Rayaan.

"Football gave me a lot in all these years. I take something special from each club in which I played, becase none of this would have been possible without them. Thanks to all of you for letting me be a part of your history and thanks to your fans that always showed me sincere gratitutde." concluded Garcia. He added he will not be done with football, so it is possible we could see him as a coach in the near future.
