LIGA MX - Veteran goalkeeper Corona out with an injury
In a tweet on the club's Twitter account, LigaMX current champions Cruz Azul announced that starting goalkeeper Jose de Jesus Corona fractured a finger and that will cause him to miss some time.
With the Apertura 2021 tournament set to start this weekend, Corona's injury could not have come at a worse time for La Maquina Celeste. The veteran goalkeeper sustained the injury during today's training session and he will require surgery, which will keep him away from the pitch for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. He now joins Roberto Alvarado, Luis Romo and Sebastian Jurado who are all playing in the Olympics as another absence for Cruz Azul, who were already missing danger man Orbelin Pineda due to the Gold Cup.
It will now be up to reserve goalkeeper Andres Gudino to keep Cruz Azul's goal safe for the first half of the tournament at least.
Malas noticias, Azules. 😔
