MLS - Chicago Fire dismisses coach Raphael Wicky
Raphael Wicky has to look for a new employer. As the MLS club Chicago Fire officially confirmed, the Swiss head coach was relieved of his duties. The 44-year-old has been on the sidelines at Lake Michigan since December 2019.
He became first-team manager on 21 April 2017, replacing Urs Fischer after a boardroom change. Days later, the team wrapped up an eighth consecutive league title, and on 25 May won the Swiss Cup with a 3–0 victory over FC Sion at the Stade de Geneve.
After various coaching positions at FC Basel, Wicky had turned his back on Europe two and a half years ago and initially hired as a coach for the US U17 national team. After seven international matches, the former Bundesliga professional from Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV went to Chicago.
