MLS - FC Cincinnati celebrate first win at TQL Stadium
FC Cincinnati's 2-0 win against Toronto FC on Saturday night was the team's first at TQL Stadium since it debuted on May 16. The club had gone 0-4-5 since the soccer-specific stadium opened.
When the final whistle blew, the players' response was genuine and heartfelt, and they made it a point to share the long-awaited moment with their supporters.
FC Cincinnati still has an uphill battle to reach the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time, with 12 games remaining — seven of those are at TQL Stadium — and 11 points below the Eastern Conference playoff line.
“This is a massive result for us, something we needed for a long time,” left-back Ronald Matarrita said. “It’s just the first step. We are going to keep going forward and build from this and move on to the next one.”
These scenes of jubilation, this is what it’s all about. For the players. For the coaches. For the faithful and relentless supporters. And for the city. Tonight was a bit of fun, don’t you think? #FCCincy pic.twitter.com/JZ3m40mLb7
