Alan Pulido, a striker for Sporting Kansas City, underwent knee surgery on Friday morning, according to manager and sporting director Peter Vermes at a virtual press conference later that day.

The procedure "was a little bit of a clean up, arthroscopically," Vermes stated, adding that their Designated Player No. 9 will be out for three to five weeks.

He also stated that the operation was "not significant" and that he should be back before the conclusion of the 2021 season.

Pulido missed both of Sporting's postseason games last season, his first in MLS. Since joining from Liga MX's Chivas Guadalajara, he's battled ailments, including a right-foot laceration versus LAFC earlier this summer.

Sporting still has an explosive attack, led by strikers Daniel Salloi, Johnny Russell, and Khiry Shelton, even without Pulido. Gadi Kinda, on the other hand, is a goal-scoring danger from midfield.
