Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday that homegrown midfielder Simon Colyn has been loaned to Jong PSV until June 30, 2022, with the option to purchase.

“This is a fantastic chance for Simon to continue his development in a very excellent environment at PSV, a club he knows well,” Whitecaps FC sports director and chief executive officer Axel Schuster said. “We'll keep an eye on his progress.”

Most recently, the Langley, BC native completed an eight-month loan stint with SPAL's youth teams in Italy's Serie B.

After graduating from the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System, Colyn, 19, signed with Vancouver's first squad in April 2018. From 2017 to 2019, Colyn spent his time between the MLS Academy's U-17 and U-19 teams, scoring 25 goals in 38 starts and 44 outings.

PSV Eindhoven's reserve squad, Jong PSV, plays in the Eerste Divisie, the second division of Dutch football. Ruud Van Nistelrooy, a renowned Dutch striker, is the team's coach.
