Real Betis welcomed their green-and-white brethren Celtic to the Benito Villamarin to kick off the 2021/22 Europa League season. Betis came out on top 4-3 in a thrilling match.

In the 15th minute, the visitors took the lead. Celtic gained possession of the ball and promptly counterattack, going from back to ahead in a matter of seconds. The ball was then crossed to Albian Ajeti on the right side, who bundled it over the line to make it 1-0.

Betis had gone from a 2-0 deficit to a 2-2 tie in less than ten minutes, with Iglesias making it 3-2 in the 51st minute before Juanmi's second of the game made it 4-2 in the 53rd. Anthony Ralston scored a late consolation goal for Celtic in the 87th minute.

After the game, a fan went viral after he posted on his Twitter page claiming he'd gotten into the Benito Villamarin by sneaking through the parking lot and up the lift, then hidden for two hours in a bathroom inside the stadium until finding a spare seat for kick-off.
