AC Milan turn to Morato to bolster defence: the ‘physical’ profile Allegri is seeking
AC Milan’s transfer business is gathering pace, with strengthening the back line the club’s top priority. While Massimiliano Allegri is pushing for proven, ready-made options such as Federico Gatti of Juventus FC or Joe Gomez from Liverpool FC, the Rossoneri hierarchy are also exploring international avenues to add height and defensive solidity.
The latest name on AC Milan’s shortlist is Morato, the Brazilian centre-back currently at Nottingham Forest, according to La Repubblica. Born in 2001 and standing at 192cm, the defender fits the brief of a “purely physical” presence who would round out Allegri’s defensive options. At 24, Morato is viewed as an upwardly mobile prospect, capable of adapting quickly to the demands and tempo of Serie A.
There is encouraging news on the internal front as well. Significant progress has been made in talks over a new contract for Mike Maignan. The French goalkeeper, whose deal expires in June, now appears closer to extending his stay at the San Siro. After months of uncertainty, a renewal is described as “possible”, a sign that the gap between the parties has finally narrowed.
