Bayern Munich reported on Wednesday that unvaccinated star midfielder Joshua Kimmich and back-up striker Eric Choupo-Moting had tested positive for Covid-19.

"Joshua Kimmich is isolating at home after testing positive. The FC Bayern midfielder is doing well," the club said in a statement.

As contact cases, German international Kimmich, Cameroon's Choupo-Moting, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry were all quarantined.

Choupo-Moting had tested positive after Bayern's 2-1 Champions League victory over Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday, with the club stating that he was "doing well given the circumstances."

Last month, Kimmich triggered a vaccination debate in Germany when he stated that he had elected not to be immunized owing to "personal reasons."

Some Bayern fans were outraged by the revelation, because in Germany, spectators at football events must show that they are completely vaccinated or have recovered from Covid, while the players they are watching only just produce a negative test result.
