Holders Borussia Dortmund advanced in the German Cup with a 2-0 home win against Ingolstadt on Tuesday, despite the absence of attacker Erling Braut Haaland due to injury.
Julian Brandt, a German winger, set up both goals for Hazard, who came off the bench in the second half to score twice at Signal Iduna Park.
Because Haaland is out with a hip problem, and understudy Youssoufa Moukoko is also out, third-choice attacker Steffen Tigges made only his fifth appearance of the season.
Dortmund struggled against their lower-league opponents, with England midfielder Jude Bellingham having the finest chance in the first half.
Hazard scored a minute after coming in for the hosts, firing home from close range to seal the second-round tie.
