When Tanguy Nianzou came to Bayern on a free transfer in 2020, the commitment was celebrated as a coup. "One of the greatest talents in Europe" has been secured, said sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.

Nianzou's first year in Munich was then riddled with injuries. With the new coach Julian Nagelsmann, who previously wanted to lure him to RB Leipzig, Nianzou should then take off.

And in preparation, the 19-year-old finally gathered the much-needed match practice. Just to sit back on the bench at the start of the season. The previously much-criticized Niklas Sule (25), just back from vacation, was preferred as a partner of Dayot Upamecano (22) in central defense.

"Tanguy still lacks the rhythm", Nagelsmann justified his choice. But it is also clear: Without regular engagement it will be difficult to pick up the rhythm. And since Lucas Hernandez (25) is fit again, Nianzou is only center-back number four at Bayern.
