OFFICIAL: Szoboszlai extends his contract with RB Leipzig for one more year

Hungary striker Dominik Szoboszlai has extended his contract with RB Leipzig by another year until 2026. Szoboszlai joined Leipizig from twin club Red Bull Salzburg for an initial £18m in January but is yet to make his Bundesliga debut because of a pelvic problem. That doesn’t concern Leipzig who decided to trust in the player’s potential and extend his deal.
“Of course, my first six months at RB Leipzig were different to what I had imagined” Szoboszlai said. “The goal was for me to be able to help the team on the pitch during the second half of the season, which unfortunately didn't work out. But I'm now fully recovered; I will be able to go 100% next season and I can't wait for the new campaign. From day one, I have felt total backing, complete trust and maximum support from the club during this difficult phase. The contract extension during this period is another strong indication of that and underlines that we want to do something and be successful together in the long term”, he said.
“A contract extension is certainly a bit unusual when a player hasn't played for their new club yet”, commercial director for Sport Florian Scholz said. “However, for us it is an important indication that Dominik Szoboszlai will be a very key player at RB Leipzig for the coming years and that we have a lot of expectations with him. Therefore, we quickly reached an agreement during some very positive discussions to extend his contract until 2026. Dominik is an exceptional European talent who will bring us a lot of joy from the new season and beyond”, he said.
