According to AFP, an analysis commissioned by UEFA anticipates a shortfall of between 2.5 and 3 billion euros ($2.9 to 3.5 billion) for European federations over the next four years if FIFA implements its controversial plan to transition to a biannual World Cup.

On Tuesday, European football's governing body submitted the study's conclusions to the heads of its 55 member federations.

According to French newspapers Le Monde and L'Equipe, who leaked the document's contents, the assessment does not account for the potential additional shortfall for each of the national championships.

UEFA has already voiced its opposition to FIFA's proposed shift to the international calendar, which calls for the World Cup to be held every two years starting in 2028, rather than the usual quadrennial cycle.
