PREMIER - Howe not to make rash promises on transfer spending
Eddie Howe says promising that Newcastle will purchase their way out of Premier League relegation problems in the January transfer window would be "foolish."
On Monday, the new manager celebrated his 44th birthday by preparing his team for Tuesday's encounter against Norwich, with the club still without a win after 13 games.
Newcastle, who were defeated 2-0 by Arsenal on Saturday, are six points short of safety at the bottom of the table, but they have crucial home games against Norwich and Burnley, the two clubs directly above them, coming up this week.
When asked if he had received assurances of support during the transfer window, he said:
"I can't make any promises on that, but I can promise that the people above me, the owners, will support the team and support me in trying to achieve what we need. That's all I can say at this time.
"It would be foolish of me to make rash promises or statements. My priority at the moment is to get the best out of the players we have."
