On Sunday, Napoli paid a fitting homage to Diego Maradona by thrashing Lazio 4-0 to move three points ahead of Serie A.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino was among those in Naples to honor one of the city's adopted sons, who led Napoli to two league titles and the 1989 UEFA Cup before passing away a year ago on Thursday.

As a statue depicting their idol in full flight atop the number 10 was carried around the pitch, fans yelled Maradona's name.

On the stadium's huge screens, a tribute to Pele was aired, and players came out for their pre-match warm-up to the sound of Opus' "Life Is Life," the song to which Maradona does keepie-uppies in one of the most beloved pieces of film of the Argentine in his peak.

Napoli took full advantage of AC Milan's 3-1 home defeat to Sassuolo to go it alone at the top with an at times electric performance, inspired by the emotional ceremony.

Luciano Spalletti's table-topping side, wearing shirts with Maradona's face on them, came out like a possessed team and blew Lazio out of the water with three magnificent first-half goals.
