SERIE A - Napoli, Politano: "Spalletti's very good at boosting our morale"
Interviewed by Naples-based station Radio Kiss Kiss, 28-year old Italian international winger Matteo Politano stated:
"We’re doing well and happy to be at the top of the league, but it’s a long season. We’ve got to carry on with the same intensity and mentality, showing a desire to win and knowing how to deal with being under the kosh as we did against Fiorentina. We’ve got off to a good start, we’ve held steady even when we’ve been up against it. This proves that we’re all pulling in the same direction, that we’re not only a great team but one with a lot of character.
At the same time we have to keep fighting in every game. We’re aware of how good we are, but we’ve got to keep our feet firmly on the ground and show in every match that we’re capable of achieving what we want to achieve, both as a club and as a city.
I did celebrate a clearance as if I had scored a goal in Florence, because defending is a fundamental part of the game, and we all have to help out. At the other end of the pitch we’ve got players who are capable of finding the net, so we just need to keep it tight at the back, and let the forwards do their thing.
Our boss, Luciano Spalletti is really up for it and enthusiastic about coaching Napoli. He’s passing on all of his experience and positive approach to us. He's not one for a lot of words after a match, he just compliments everyone on their performance and then the following Tuesday he goes through the game. He’s very confident and it rubs off on us. After last year's disappointment the squad felt a lot of regret. Spalletti has been very good at boosting our morale, and giving us the energy we need to make amends".
