Juventus face Nico González dilemma as World Cup form raises price but Spalletti wants a closer look
Juventus have yet to resolve Nico González’s future. The Argentina winger, who has reached the World Cup final, is understood to be keen on a return to Atlético Madrid, where he spent last season and settled both on and off the pitch.
The Spanish club remain his preferred destination, but a deal is far from straightforward. Atlético chose not to trigger the €32m option to buy agreed last summer, believing they could reopen talks with Juventus on more favourable terms.
No discount from Turin
The situation, however, has changed in recent weeks. According to Tuttosport, González’s performances at the World Cup have increased his market value and strengthened Juventus’ position.
The Bianconeri are willing to listen to offers, but they want to maximise any fee for a player who still has interest from abroad. Atlético will therefore have to move closer to Juventus’ asking price if they want to bring the Argentina international back to Diego Simeone’s side and avoid rival clubs entering the race.
Spalletti could reassess him at Juventus
From a technical point of view, González is not regarded as surplus to requirements. Luciano Spalletti values his versatility and sees him as a credible option behind the first-choice wide players.
Before any final decision is made, the Juventus manager will speak to González to understand his mindset and his plans for the future.
At the same time, Juventus and Atlético could also discuss other transfer matters. Alexander Sorloth remains a player Juventus are monitoring, although Randal Kolo Muani is still the club’s top priority in attack.
