"The team is in good shape physically. I rested Militão from those who're coming back and Nacho did very well. In the next few games some of them might be tired and I'm going to change them. I've got a lot of confidence in the players who haven't played as much. I was happy with the quality of our play, we were looking for quality between the lines, and the thing I liked the least was that in the first half we dropped our intensity and tempo, and sometimes we weren't very effective when we needed to be. Asensio is doing what I ask of him, I don't know if he will start. There is a lot of competition, we know that, but the important thing is that when he plays he delivers. He scored today, he delivered and demonstrated his best qualities.
Modrić, Kroos and Casemiro? What can you say about them.... they're playing at a very high level and are still the best midfielders in the world for me. I'm surprised with the three of them is surprising because they're doing things that I don't even ask from them, they do it naturally and it's a big advantage for this club. They are the past, present and the future. If we’re talking about the near future, absolutely. If we’re looking in 10 years’ time, then perhaps not. But we’re in good shape for the future because Camavinga, Valverde and Blanco are ready too. They’re used to playing together and they have qualities which are hard to explain. The way they switch positions during the game, sometimes Modrić drops deep to play through the press and sometimes it’s Kroos, Casemiro moves forward. Madridismo has no need to worry, I’m not getting involved there (laughs).
I made the substitutions to give the guys who had played more a rest and let some lads who had less playing time get a go. We thought about bringing Isco on later but he had warmed up so we put him on with the others. I took Vini Jr. to avoid any issues. The game was heating up, for us and for Granada I thought it was best to take him off.
Vallejo? He deserves to play, just like the others because he is as good a professional as I have seen during my time in football. I like to play him wherever I can. I don’t know about the red card, I don’t think it was decisive in the game”.
