LA LIGA - Real Madrid, Valverde: "My victory goal against Barça was a double dose of happiness"

Interviewed by Real Madrid TV, Blancos playmaker Federico Valverde, ahead of facing Barcelona FC in upcoming El Clásico match, stated:

“We’re doing well. We’re motivated and well up for the game. We know how important this game is and what it means to wear this shirt in these types of matches. We’re up for it and looking forward to the occasion.

I’m a bit nervous, but also excited and really proud to be able to play in these types of games. As we always say, we’re well up for it. It’s a great occasion and people will be watching it all over the world. Loads of children dream of playing in these games, so those of us who have the opportunity to be on the pitch have to give it 100% and win it, obviously.

We have to be united, I think that’s crucial. Whoever plays, whether it’s from the start or later on, has to be ready for the demands of the coaching staff. That’s essential for everyone. Everyone has to chip in with their part here. I think it’s going to be a great season for us if we can do that.

Last season match? The first thing I remember is my goal. And of course the victory. It’s also nice when you score and win the game – it’s like a double dose of happiness. Scoring in these types of games is one of the greatest things in football. I remember when the game ended I felt really bad, because I’d become dizzy during the match. I hadn’t looked at my phone and when I got home I had thousands of messages from members of my family and friends, and that’s really special. Teammates who congratulated me on my goal and the win. It was a really special day and it was amazing.

You always dream of playing in these types of games and even more so for Real Madrid. You always have to aim as high as you can and I think the highest is for Madrid in these types of games. Now that I can do that I really enjoy it. I’ve been buzzing since the end of the game against Shakhtar. Since then I’ve been thinking about the match and whether I get to play or I’m on the bench I’ll support my teammates and the team”.
