Lille has won every Ligue 1 game in which Canadian forward Jonathan David has scored, a remarkable record that was extended on Saturday with a 2-1 victory against Strasbourg thanks to his brace.

David opened the score midway through the first half after converting a Timothy Weah cutback, and he later sent the goalie the wrong way from the penalty spot in the 57th minute after Weah was taken down in the area.

Strasbourg got a goal back through Ibrahima Sissoko, but they were reduced to ten men after Adrien Thomasson was sent off.

They've climbed back to eighth place, three points behind second-placed Marseille despite having played two more games.

In midweek, Lille travels to Austria to face Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League.

After joining from Belgian club Gent, David, who was born in New York, scored 13 goals for Lille last season.

His club pipped Paris Saint-Germain to the title by winning all 11 matches in which he scored.
