After a half-time pitch invasion ruined their 1-0 win over northern rivals Lille, French football officials ordered Lens to play their home matches behind closed doors until further notice.

The decision affects Wednesday's Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg as well as Reims' visit on October 1.

After the matter has been properly investigated for five days, a final decision will be made.

The disciplinary committee of the French league has also decided to close the away section for traveling Lille fans for subsequent matches, beginning with Saturday's trip to Strasbourg.

After tensions with other spectators escalated, dozens of Lens fans invaded the Stade Bollaert-Delelis pitch on Saturday to confront visiting Lille fans stationed in a section of the stadium.

As both groups of fans flung chairs at one other over a partition wall, riot cops intervened to separate the factions of opposing supporters.

Six individuals were injured, and two people were arrested by police.
