Interviewed by Arsenal official media, Japanese international defensive all-rounder Takehiro Tomiyasu, who had a groundbreaking Gunners lift-off between his first two games for North London giants, won against Norwich City and Burnley, talked about how joining Arsenal meant a dream coming true for him:

"I never thought I could have joined such an important club as Arsenal. Playing Premier League was my big dream when I was a kid. I'm so excited about that, and I can't wait to make my Emirates Stadium starting debut. As a kid, I was meant to enter swimming; then I had a treadmill accident, which I hurt my chin by, and that led me to start playing football".

Turning 23 on November 5, Tomiyasu was purchased from Bologna, few hours before the August 31 buzzer, on a 23 million euros transfer fee.
