Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz was heavily linked with a move away from the club over the summer.
Italian giants AS Roma were credited with an interest towards the end of the transfer window as they looked to bring in a new midfielder following Jose Mourinho's arrival at the Stadio Olimpico in the summer. Arsenal's Granit Xhaka was close to joining Roma but that move never materialised.
Luiz will be out of contract at Villa at the end of next season and unlike some of his team-mates who also signed for the club in 2019, he is yet to agree fresh terms with Villa.
Roma could make a move when the January transfer window opens in the New Year but Villa would not want to sell a player who has begun the season in sparkling form.
