Pep Guardiola admitted on Tuesday that his Manchester City legacy would be determined by whether or not the team can win the Champions League after falling short at the last hurdle last season.

The Premier League champions kick off their season on Wednesday against RB Leipzig, fewer than four months after their heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Chelsea.

Guardiola, on the other hand, said he will not linger on City's wasted chance in the Champions League final against Porto, and that it would be a mistake to dismiss last season's European campaign as a failure.

"I accept it," Guardiola, who won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, but hasn't won it since then with Bayern Munich and City, stated.

"Every year is the same. If I win the Champions League I will be happy for the club. If I'm not able to do it, I'm not able.

"After, you can judge the success of my period."
