Liverpool has confirmed plans to expand Anfield's capacity by 7,000 seats before the 2023/24 season.

A "ground-breaking ceremony" will be held next week, and construction on the stadium will begin immediately after.

The plans were originally exposed in June when This Is Anfield published a paper revealing the club's desire to expand Anfield to a 61,000-seater.

Liverpool had already begun preparing for the development of the Anfield Road stand, awaiting approval from the City Council.

The renovation will also have a wide entry section large enough to carry in heavy objects for stages, allowing the stadium to be used for concerts and shows.

The new stand will appear identical to the Main Stand and will boost the historic venue's capacity to a staggering 61,000 at the completion of construction, which will cost roughly £60 million.

Anfield will become the country's fourth-largest club football stadium as a result of the expansion.
