Timo Werner is hoping that the end of his Chelsea goal drought will herald a new beginning for the German striker following a difficult time at Stamford Bridge.

In Chelsea's League Cup third round clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday, Werner scored the game's first goal.

It was Werner's first goal for Thomas Tuchel's side in 11 games, reinforcing his conviction that he can help the Blues win the Premier League and the Champions League.

"It's good to be back on the scoresheet, good to score at Stamford Bridge and I'm happy that I'm back on the pitch," Werner said.

"I think that the last few weeks were not very easy for me, but every goal, every assist brings me back on track, so it was good for me and also for the team."
