In a press conference on Thursday, Mexico National Team manager Gerardo Martino spoke about Raul Jimenez's situation and his plans for the Wolves striker in the near future:

"This is an unpleasant situation that Raul found himself in, unfortunately, and he is still working through it psychologically. He is currently physically fit, I spoke with him 5 days ago and I explained to him why I decided against calling him up. His club legitimately wanted to safeguard one of its best players, and we decided it was best for him to have a full summer of rest, play in preseason matches and see if he's ready to go matchday one in the Premier League. That is the best pathway for him to be able to help us in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers".

Mexico will play two international friendlies before traveling to Denver to play Costa Rica in the first match of the new CONCACAF Nations League.
