The Japanese Football Association JPA is trying to get Shinta Appelkamp. As reported by 'Bild', national coach Hajime Moriyasu and a delegation visited Fortuna Dusseldorf on Thursday.

The Japanese are said to have personally observed national player Ao Tanaka (23 / two internationals) and Appelkamp and are interested in the 20-year-old offensive player playing for the island nation's national team in the future.

Appelkamp was born in Tokyo and has both Japanese and German citizenship. He recently made his debut for the DFB's U21 team. He has also been in action for the Japanese U18 national team. It remains to be seen whether Appelkamp can envision future football involvement in his country of birth.

Appelkamp made his professional debut for Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 2. Bundesliga on 26 September 2020, coming on as a substitute in 62nd minute of the team's 1–0 home win against Wurzburger Kickers.
