NATIONS - France beat Spain to win UEFA Nations League title
In a tense second half of the UEFA Nations League at San Siro on Sunday, France rallied from behind to defeat Spain.
Theo Hernandez came close to breaking the deadlock for France when he rattled the crossbar in the 64th minute, but just seconds later, Spain's Mikel Oyarzabal scored the game's first goal when he raced past Presnel Kimpembe and blasted across Hugo Lloris into the bottom corner.
But their advantage lasted less than a minute, as France went on the offensive almost immediately after the kick-off, and Benzema hit the top corner with a spectacular curling attempt from the corner of the penalty area, bringing the score to 1-1.
After equalizing, France gained control and went up 2-1 in the 80th minute when Kylian Mbappé was slid in behind the Spain defense and tapped past Simón.
Spain claimed offside, but the goal was upheld following a VAR review.
After that, Oyarzabal had an opportunity to equalize for Spain, but Lloris stopped his low shot wonderfully.
France has won the Nations League for the first time, but Spain's nine-year quest for a medal continues.
